Laurie Dymes, Ph.D. is an accomplished educator and dyslexia interventionist with extensive experience across various educational settings. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she teaches courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs of education.

Since 2006, Laurie has been an integral part of Lincoln County Public Schools, where she has earned recognition as a distinguished teacher through the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System and was named Lincoln County Teacher of the Year in 2023. A National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy, she’s also a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI), having passed the rigorous KPEERI exam through CERI. This prestigious certification equips Laurie to deliver research-based, tailored interventions, empowering students with dyslexia to thrive with confidence and personalized support.

In addition to her work in the U.S., Laurie has extensive international experience. She served as an English lecturer in China from 2016 to 2018 and as an International English Program Coordinator at Jiaotong University from 2018 to 2021. Most recently, in 2024, she worked in Vietnam, continuing to refine her ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and expand her global perspective on education.

Laurie is a passionate advocate for evidence-based practices in public schools, frequently presenting to educators and administrators at national conferences. Her presentations share her personal journey of learning about dyslexia, the gaps in current practices for supporting dyslexic students, and the strategies she has developed to help every reader succeed. As a member of the International Dyslexia Association at both the national and state levels, Laurie remains committed to improving educational outcomes for students with dyslexia.
